A good day for us

After a few days of being sick I finally felt like I have some energy. I was preparing for an eventful week; I had a photographer friend from Europe coming to visit to take some photos of Seraphina, the Israeli independence day and a bachelorette party. So my main goal was to try and work as much as I can with the pack and especially with Seraphina.

On Sunday morning we started the day with a super nice session.

First part of the training was with food and we were working on her follow-up front position which is improving so nicely! Afterwards I started some luring exercises and my focus was on 3 things;

  1. Her expressions; I want to see her happy and excited to work and make it clear that my tone is also a marker for good energy.

  2. Duration of behaviors; making sure that the keep going signal I use with her is clear.

  3. Mistake marker; I want her to know when she is doing something wrong but I don’t want it to have any affect on her expression and motivation to keep trying.

The next part of the food workout was a station training. One of the most important skills a dog can have in my opinion. Especially when we are talking about being part of a working pack. The goal is that she would be able to hold a station even while another dog is working, but first we will have to make sure she can do it without any major distraction.

And for the last part - toy.

I really like the expression she has with the toy so I am starting to combine it with the tricks we are working on and I want her to think with the right energy when she performs the tricks. So the toy is now a reward and at the same time the retrieval is also improving a lot which is making me really happy!

As the day continued I wasn’t able to work anymore before the evening but when evening arrived; we worked on a playing pattern for the first time with 2 toys.

The goals in this training are:

  1. A stable grip even when another toy is moving as long as I didn’t ask for a drop.

  2. Focus between the toy changes.

  3. Biting from both hands.

  4. Clear playing rules 😉.

Seraphina is starting to grow and turning into a great partner with so many nice qualities and I am so proud of her!
